In the 1980's, Bill Rayner, a Solihull businessman and Rotarian had a vision. He wanted to create affordable care and support facilities for the residents of Solihull. His vision was specific; he wanted to create a structure that would support the needs of all individuals; from those with complex needs, to those who needed some assistance to live independently, through to individuals who needed temporary care or respite.

He worked together with Mr Shepherdson (another Solihull businessman), Solihull Council and Rotary. Solihull Council provided the land, Rotary helped set up a trust fund and Rayner House and Yew Trees was formed in 1984.
